Using DIY Steam Power as Backup For Solar Power DIY
Thursday, August 28th, 2008Since I live on a property that is fairly heavily wooded, where some timber regularly natural falls to the ground. I considered and did a little research on steam power. Please understand that I still don’t know that much about steam. But let me wet your appetite to doing your own research with some of my findings.
Firstly I found a fair but of clean water is required. For many folk in many places around the world this is not an issue. Also the reclaim the water, a lot of waste heat is generated that can heat a large amount of water. This is extremely useful for use in centrally heating the house.
While an engine is running, a fair bit of operator attendance is required to keep the firebox stoked with fuel and give things a squirt of oil occasionally. However I am sure that auto fuel reloaders and auto oilers can be employed to ensure that a check, once every half hour or so is all that would be needed.
I have found a man in South Australia who makes a small steam engine for home power use. I haven’t ruled out the steam engine for my own situation here in southern Queensland, Australia, but I’m not going to try one for the time being. But you might. If any body is interested I can post some info about him.
