I’ve been talking about horizontal axis wind turbines.  Commercially these are the most available.  However a few horizontal axis wind turbine types are also becoming more available.  It’s probably the type or group of types that has the biggest variety.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbines have some advantages over the horizontal types as well as disadvantages.  I don’t know enough about them to discuss the advantages and disadvantages much.  What I do believe is that they can do better in lower speed winds.  Some vertical axis types are not self starting.

I don’t know a huge amount about these and I intend to experiment.  I am looking forward to having my house finished, leaving me some time to tinker again.
